Many readers know we moved from our home of forty-four years to a senior independent living complex. On April Fools Day-2021, two fools departed their lake site and arrived at a beautiful facility with about 300 other independent residents. We have a lovely apartment and now, after about four weeks, are beginning to have more than our jammies unpacked and are able to even find most items.
One of the challenges of leaving the lake, was the wonderful fire pit located on our back patio area. Shortly, prior to our exodus to the “Promise Land”, I suggested one final hot dog roast. The evening was lovely. Only a slight breeze fanned the flames and never have the “dogs” tasted so good. Maybe the salt from a few shed tears of memories added to the flavor.
Outdoor, controlled fires have a special feeling. Memories of youth church camp flashed before my eyes, as I remembered watching the sun go down in southern Missouri at Rock Garden Christian Camp. Fires are mentioned frequently in the Bible. This evening I remembered when Jesus prepared breakfast with some of the fish the disciples had just caught. (John 21:1-14) What fun it would have been to share that meal around warm flames with the King of Kings!
Where will I go now for my roasting of marshmallows over red hot flames? Perhaps some friend will invite us to an outdoor feast. Hopefully this might even be a wonderful opportunity to witness for the Lord a wee bit.
Incidentally, I really prefer my hot dog a bit burned and crispy on the surface. What about you?
