Roses are red
Skies are blue
God’s love
Reaches out to you.
Hopefully each of you today is remembering our Great Lover of All, the one and only, Jesus Christ. The psalmist David said it so well. “Many are the woes of the wicked, but the Lord’s unfailing love surrounds the one who trusts in him. Rejoice in the Lord and be glad, you righteous; sing, all you who are upright in heart” (Psalm 32:10-11)!
Today, as I nibbled on a yummy, dark chocolate from Pease’s, my favorite candy store, I thanked my friend for her thoughtfulness. Wandering over to the kitchen window, my eyes blinked twice. Black and white feathers flashed by as a large eagle settled on the branch by the water’s edge. God had just sent a reminder of his incredible creation. Once again a quick little thank you.
Crunchy, icy sounds reached my ears as my feet carefully plodded out to retrieve the daily paper. With near zero temperature, words of thanks to God were a bit more hesitant. This lady prefers slightly warmer air. Once again, however, David had a reminder for me. “When I said, ‘My foot is slipping,’ your unfailing love, Lord, supported me.” And then another reminder followed. “When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy” (Psalm 94:18-19). Of course, David was not thinking of black ice on a drive, but of his personal weaknesses. I am confident, however, that God was also watching over this clumsy lady as she treaded, ever so carefully to the street.
My job on this earth for Him must be still unfinished. Guess I will have to keep pushing ahead. That is a thrilling thought for this day of “thoughtfulness for our friends and for the Greatest Friend of all”. Hang tough, will be my motto until the next February 14th.
Yes, thanks must fill my prayers, not just on V-day, but daily. The greatest lover not only provides me with beautiful sights, delicious floral aromas, protection from icy dangers, but even more importantly, joy and support during midnight hours of tossing and turning because of life’s anxieties or uncertainties.
Yes, I am delighted that this special day causes me to pause and reflect for a few moments.
PS: No one will ever accuse me of being an incredible poet. Sorry for my simple verse above based on the old favorite.
